Menu Gadget Bug

Postby mmxbass » Fri Feb 28, 2014 8:53 pm

Let me preface by stating that I -STILL- can't file any reports in the actual tracker because it seems to mark any and all possible inputs as "possible spam".

On to the actual problem:

The Menu DB widget seems to have a URL field of varchar(127). (??!)

This is woefully inadequate given how domains alone are allowed to technically be that long. When you add the path and anchors, 127 would be downright comical if not for the fact that it's breaking stuff. The field needs to be made substantially larger... preferably larger than actual url length maximums.

...and domain names alone are allowed to be that long. I've already had to deal with mysterious truncation failures (without any UI notification I might add) when putting in urls in the ~300 char range. Even 512 is pushing the short end. Given that 2083 is the maximum length that all browsers support (some allow more!), the url field should arguably be at least that long if not made into a text field.

Let's not even get into unicode issues and multi-octet characters.

Make the field bigger.

2048 I think would suit 99.9% of use cases, honestly.
