User Portal

Postby bazz » Thu Jan 22, 2009 12:01 am

Can Jaws be used as a user portal, kinda like a myspace/blog/webpage thing? Can a user go to the main site and register, and once registration is complete the user can log on and have a template ready to go to modify once logged on?

Well I guess kinda like a default template for the user to work with. Something the the administrator of the site can pre-set. For example 3 templates for users with different layouts, but defaults to template 1 with 1 gadget
Example: Templates available.
Template 1 blue with 1 gadget
Template 2 red with 2 gadget
Template 3 green with 3 gadget
The user can than select a template and do his or her thing. Does that make any sense?

I tried to look around for some how to's but didnt have any luck. I installed Jaws on my machine, but could not find a way for a user to self register. Can anyone point me to any good directions for stuff like this? Or ever how to create a simple site?

Thanks! :)

for enabling registration:
1. first put Users "Login Box" action into layout
2. goto Properties of Users gadget, and set "Anonymous users can register" to Yes

Thanks!!!

Ok so I'm still trying to figure this out. So the first page is the log on. And I'm using menus for the user navigation. The problem is how can I have the menus display after the user has loged on and not on the main index?

I also tried to set up some default settings with gadgets, or let the user use the control panel to control their gadgets, but not having any luck. How can I set this up?
Thanks again!

the first thing for a "user portal" is communication. How can I integrate a forum like http://www.phpbb.com/ and very important: How can I realize a newsletter? that are very important apps.

you would have to code it yourself (the connection / gadget) as there is nothing like that yet.
